Examples of Firearms Case We Can Handle

  • Intent to commit an offense with a firearm
  • Guns that are unlicensed
  • Buying firearms for another person
  • Illegally concealed firearms
  • Stolen guns
  • Sawed off shotguns
  • Illegally transporting or selling guns
  • Possessing or using a firearm on federal property unlawfully
  • Illegally possessing or using automatic firearms, silencers, and other weapons
  • Failure to register the gun
  • Owning a gun as a convicted felon
  • Illegal Possession of Firearms for Convicted Felons

In Georgia, people who have been convicted do not have permission to own firearms. If a convicted felon is subsequently caught with a firearm on his or her person, that individual will face up to five years in jail and expensive fines. If the earlier conviction was ruled a “forcible felony,” or the accused had been charged of using physical force or threatening physical force, the five year sentence is the minimum punishment.

People who have been on probation for a previous conviction will also face a severe punishment if they are caught with unlawfully owning a gun. Once convicted will usually have their probation fully taken away and will have to face incarceration for the original length of sentence.

In Georgia Am I Allowed To Possess A Loaded Firearm In My Vehicle?

You have permission to possess a loaded firearm in your car in Georgia. If you are not the owner of the vehicle, the owner of the vehicle must allow you to carry the firearm on your person or leave it in the vehicle. If for whatever reason you are not allowed to possess a loaded firearm, you are not allowed to keep the loaded firearm in your vehicle.

Knowledgeable Professionalism

Since there are so many differences between federal and state restrictions on the possession of firearms in Georgia, it is very common for people to break the laws by mistake. Accused individuals are usually unaware of the specific restrictions in the locations they enter, and this is why it is absolutely critical that if you or someone you know is facing a firearm offense that you consult a knowledgeable professional. Contact the Law of Office of Lloyd J. Matthews and we will help you with all your legal issues, from FTA removals to theft crimes, sex crimes, and more.
